Karni: Legacy in Every Detail

To tell the story of Karni Jewelry, we need a time machine—one that takes us far beyond 2025, back to the 19th or even 18th century. It was then that the Davoudian family lived and worked in Cilicia, an Armenian land far from Armenia itself. Though their true surname was Davoudian, they were often known as Kouyoumjian—a name that meant "jeweler" and became a mark of their craftsmanship.

But history was not always kind. In 1915, the Davoudian family was forced to leave their homeland, Marash, Cilicia, to become refugees. Settling in Syria, they reclaimed their original name, Davoudian, carrying with them not just a name, but a legacy. Despite the hardships, one thing remained constant: their craft. The Davoudian family continued their legacy, not only creating jewelry but also passing down their expertise through a dedicated school, ensuring that the art of Armenian jewelry-making lived on.

Now, our time machine moves forward to 2015, when the Davoudian family, once again, faced the forces of history. This time, it was Aleppo, the city that had become their home, that they were forced to leave. War erupted without warning, turning their lives upside down.

But as before, one thing remained unchanged—their art. Returning to Armenia, the Davoudian family started over, carrying a craft that neither time nor hardship could erase. And at the heart of this revival was Karno, the heir of the family. With a story to tell and a legacy to continue, he began creating jewelry in Armenia, honoring the tradition that had endured for generations. For our final journey, the time machine takes us to 2017—the year Karno founded Karni Jewelry. His work began with a deep connection to his Armenian heritage, crafting jewelry inspired by Trchnagir—an ancient script where letters take the form of birds, a symbol of both artistry and identity.

This marked the beginning of a new journey, one that continues to this day. Karni Jewelry is more than adornment; it is a story of legacy, history, family values, struggles, and triumphs. A story that began centuries ago and lives on today, destined to become timeless. The voices of the past, their unique handwriting once etched in history, now take shape in every piece of Karni’s jewelry.
